One of the ways that we help our patients regain their good health and heal their bodies is to create a sense of calm and relaxation. We know that in order for a body to be optimally healthy, we must decrease the negative side effects of stress.

Stress can affect your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Physical symptoms such as headaches, tension in the neck and shoulders, dizziness, fatigue and poor sleep can all be a result of stress overload. Stress can affect your mental state too as it elevates levels of cortisol; a hormone that affects the function of the brain. This can result in worrying, poor concentration, difficulty in making decisions and uncontrollable thoughts. And to add to the list, emotional symptoms can present as irritability, feelings of being overwhelmed, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression.

We use a variety of modalities to hep decrease the negative side effects of stress.

Starting with Acupuncture

Healthcare professionals are recognizing that acupuncture promotes deep relaxation and enables the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system or “rest, digest and recover” functions.

The parasympathetic state is essential to restoring and maintaining health, but most people are too stressed to access it, thus compromising their ability to fully heal.

Think of acupuncture as physical therapy for the nervous and circulatory system; when the nervous system is firing correctly and blood is moving freely, we feel better and we flourish. In contrast, when the nervous system is out of balance or blood flow is impeded, organ function may be hindered  and symptoms can arise.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a proven way for stress sufferers to seek relief. The effects are so well known that the number of Americans receiving massages has spiked. In 2006, 1 in 6 Americans visited massage therapists according to a study by the American Massage Therapy Association. That number has definitely increased as more Americans seek stress relief.

How does massage therapy actually relieve stress?

Massage therapy relieves stress through a number of ways, aside from the massage itself. Our stress relief comes from:

  • The relaxing environment

  • Aromatherapy

  • And the healing hands of passionate practitioners

Generally, massage therapy environments are made to encourage relaxation. Low lighting paired with comforting quiet and soft music allows you to disconnect from the outside world, and your electronics, so you can unwind and truly focus on the present.

Meditation

At Evolve we have weekly and monthly mediation classes to help patients create a body that is ready for healing.

What is meditation?

Meditation is a tool for the re-discovery of body’s own inner intelligence. Practiced for thousands of years, it’s not about forcing the mind to be quiet, it’s finding the silence that’s already there and making it a part of your life. Silence is the birthplace of happiness, creativity and infinite possibilities. From this field of pure potentiality we get our bursts of inspiration, our most intuitive thoughts, and our deepest sense of connection to the Universe. Practicing meditation on a daily basis allows you to weave silence and stillness into your mind and body to create a life of greater compassion and fulfillment. Meditation is a journey to the center of our very being; a journey to emotional freedom; and a journey to the reawakening of our unconditioned self.
